Proud to be an American... skydivers make an entrance into the First Flight celebration.
The Landsharks  from Key West, FL, tried to warm up the very cold weather with caribbean trop-rock. Amid lines of Margaritaville, proclaiming "pilots covered with coats" instead of tourists covered with oil, and other Buffett tunes, we decided "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere!"
There were of course, some VIP's in the audience.
Then there's the headliners, The Beach Boys!!!  And wearing coats!!
Mike and the boys did all the favorites, including California Girls, Surfing USA, Kokomo, Barbara Ann, Help Me Rhonda, and many more. Check out that surfboard with the First Flight logo on it!
Mike Love on the Jumbotron. The crowd grew to 18,000 today to hear these guys.
And "We'll have fun, fun, fun, til her daddy takes the T-bird away...."
Later in the afternoon we were entertained by the Embers, a fine Carolina beach music band from Raleigh.  That's Bobby Younkin on the Jumbotron in the background performing live air show stunts.
And another shot of the Embers and Bobby Younkin in the background. The final song of the show was "Proud to be an American" written by Lee Greenwood. That song nevers fails to bring tears to my eyes, and I was definitely in the majority. It has been a pleasure and an honor to be a part of an event where so much patriotism is evident, and where we feel so safe.
Apaches dusting off the runway.
Never did we feel safer than when leaving tonight and suddenly appeared four Apache attack helos which circled the field and landed right on the airstrip. Then came the Marine One type helos following (pictured below), doing dress rehearsal for the big event next week.
