The Aeroshell stunt plane in the hanger at Manteo airport.

Close up of Aeroshell stunt plane.
This plane is hand painted by children and flies for children's health charities.
This PBY flying boat is an original WWII plane which possibly operated out of this very airport in Manteo when it was a military base in the 40's.
This B52 Stratofortress bomber made a low pass over the Manteo airport.
The PBY first made a low pass over the runway before landing.
I was excited about the PBY landing and wishing these people would move out of the way... oops, whose that?  Yes, it's....
General Chuck Yeager! (center), "the fastest man alive",  here for tomorrow's "walk of the 100 heroes of aviation".
An example of a fine "homebuilt" experimental aircraft. Think I'll pass on flying in this one!
Apaches dusting off the runway.
A low pass of four fighter jets at the Wright Memorial.

A C-130 Hercules cargo plane passes by.
Next is an AWACS plane.
A representation of the past and present., featuring WWII fighters next to present day fighters.
The same four make another low pass.
Next appears the Osprey, which gives a demonstration for the audience of its ability to hover like a helicopter.
It then lowered its propellers forward and flew away like a plane, at the exact instant that the engine was fired up on the Wright flyer, shown in lower part of the picture. Two sets of twin propellers representing 100 years turning at once.
Immediately after that we were treated to more history in the making as astronaut Buzz Aldrin flew by in the Kitty Hawk 100, a Gulfstream 2, which set a speed record today by flying from Los Angeles to Kitty Hawk in three hours, fifty minutes. The music playing in the background was "Running on Empty" which I expect they were. The landing gear came down immediately and they put her down in Manteo.
One more significant fly-by was the F117 Nighthawk stealth bomber.
